Product Overview

What Social Live is, the surfaces people touch, and the core product loops.

TL;DR -Social Live is a live-streaming app: hosts broadcast, viewers watch, chat, and send paid gifts, and hosts turn those gifts into real earnings.

Who this is for -Product & Design: read this whole page to get the shape of the app. Business & Executive: the loops section. Engineering: this is the map; the child pages have the mechanics.

Social Live is a place where people go live and other people show up to watch. A host opens a room and streams video (or just voice). Viewers drop in, watch, chat, and cheer the host on by sending gifts -little animated icons they buy with in-app coins. Those gifts are how a host makes money: gifts convert into a payout currency the host can eventually cash out.

Everything else in the product exists to make that moment better -easier to find a room, more fun to be in one, safe to hang out, and simple to message the people you meet there.

The surfaces a user touches

These are the main places a person spends time in the app:

  • Discovery -the grid of rooms that are live right now, including a feed of just the people you follow.
  • A live room -the core experience: the host on stage, a scrolling chat, gifts flying, and a stage other people can be invited up onto.
  • Audio party rooms -the same idea with no video: a host and up to twelve guests on voice-only seats.
  • Chat & calls -direct messages and 1:1 audio/video calls with people you meet.
  • Profiles -who someone is: photo, level, bio, follower stats, and the buttons to follow or message them.
  • Safety tools -reporting, blocking, and the host controls that keep a room civil.

The three loops that drive the product

Almost every feature serves one of three loops.

The broadcast loop. A host goes live, viewers join and watch, the host keeps them entertained, and the room stays alive. Room lifecycle, stage guests, backgrounds, and PK battles (two hosts competing head-to-head) all feed this loop. See Live rooms and Joining a room.

The social loop. People follow each other, chat inside rooms, slide into direct messages, and hop on calls. Relationships formed here bring people back and pull them between rooms. See Chat & calls.

The economy loop. Viewers buy coins, spend them on gifts, and hosts earn a payout currency they cash out. This is what turns attention into revenue for hosts and the platform. The mechanics live in the Business section -Economy and Gifting.

Wrapping all three is a trust layer: reporting, blocking, keyword filtering, and moderation, because none of the loops work if the space doesn't feel safe. See Safety & moderation.
